Senator Iovino Chairs Southwestern PA Meeting of Special Education Funding Commission

Moon Township, PA – October 2, 2019 – Yesterday afternoon, Senator Pam Iovino chaired a meeting of the Special Education Funding Commission at the Moon Area School District. The hearing included expert testimony to the Commission, which was re-established by Act 16 to review Pennsylvania’s special education funding formula, last updated in 2013. The Commission, a bi-partisan, bi-cameral body, is charged with issuing a report to the General Assembly by November 30th with recommendations on how the state can more fairly and effectively distribute special education funds while better considering school districts’ needs and ability to raise local revenue.

Senator Iovino Discusses Special Education Funding

Open House on Addiction

 


Senator Iovino’s Open House on Addiction on September 29th in Bridgeville provided recovery resources, family counseling, and access to other supportive services in the field of addiction. A panel discussion included a Narcan demonstration from the Allegheny County Health Department, an update on regional drug trends by a Drug Enforcement Administration agent, a story of hope and recovery from a recovering addict, a St. Clair Hospital ER doctor’s perspective on the addiction crisis, and a father’s story of his son’s struggle with addiction.

Senator Iovino Advocates for More Adult Changing Stations

 


Senator Iovino joined Rep. Dan Miller, Sen. Camera Bartolotta, and members of the disability advocacy community at a press conference in the Capitol to discuss legislation that would expand the number of adult changing stations in public restrooms throughout Pennsylvania. This would benefit a broad range of people on the disability spectrum by providing a dignified, private, and hygienic place to see to their personal needs.

Senator Iovino Tours ALCOSAN

 

Senator Iovino toured the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN)’s wastewater treatment plant, where they treat 250 million gallons of water each day for 83 municipalities throughout the region. She had a great discussion about upgrading our aging infrastructure and the future expansion at the facility that will more than double treatment capacity to meet demands from storm events.
